KOA Continues Growth With New Park on South Padre Island
BILLINGS , MT (December 6, 2006) – Kampgrounds of America has again added to its collection of premiere campgrounds with the addition of the South Padre Island, Texas KOA Campground.
The South Padre Island KOA, formerly known as the Destination RV Resort, is on more than 14 acres just ¼ mile south of Padre Island’s Queen Isabella Causeway. The campground is the seventh campground added to the KOA system in 2006. The other new campgrounds include the Laughlin/Avi Casino, Nevada KOA; Branson, Missouri KOA; Trinity Lake, California KOA; Dallas Metro, Texas KOA; Grand Junction, Colorado KOA; Fort Collins/Lakeside, Colorado KOA; and the Ashland, West Virginia KOA.
The new South Padre Island KOA has 208 full-service sites that include up to 50-amps. It also has one- or two-bedroom condo units with views of the water, as well as a 25-meter heated pool, laundry, restaurant, exercise room, boat launch and lighted fishing pier. There’s also on-site charter deep-sea and bay fishing tours. The campground is across the street from the Schlitterbahn Beach Water Park.
“The South Padre Island KOA is a very unique property in a great location,” said Scott Corey, KOA’s new vice president of Company Operated Properties. “It fits well into our system, and will offer our campers one of the best camping experiences available in North America.”
Cory said two of KOA’s campground management veterans, Tom and Stacie Brooks, will be in charge at the South Padre KOA. They had previously managed KOA properties in Santa Cruz, California; Fiesta Key, Florida; and Bar Harbor, Maine.
“It was a pleasure working with KOA on this transaction,” said Stan McElroy, the previous owner of the South Padre park. “I’m confident that with the strong KOA brand and high level of professionalism and dedication to customer service, they will continue to move this campground in the right direction.”
“This is just the start of a very aggressive growth spurt for KOA,” said KOA President Shane Ott. “We’re constantly on the lookout for more parks that have what it takes to become a KOA.”
Kampgrounds of America currently has nearly 450 locations throughout the U.S. and Canada. For more information on the South Padre KOA go to www.southpadrekoa.com. For information on other campgrounds in the KOA system, go to www.koa.com or www.koapressroom.com.
