of exceptional service, fun, and family entertainment. |
South Padre Island KOA, is a unique environmental
reclamation project. Situated on the shore of
Laguna Madre Bay, palm trees, flowering plants,
breathtaking sunsets, bright blue tanks,
25-meter pool, and Texas hospitality greet guests.
Originally the property, that is
located ¼ mile south of the Island's Queen Isabella
Causeway, was a 14.57-acre property eyesore. Over
the years the area was filled with unauthorized above
and below ground utility lines, two semi-abandoned 330,000
gallon water storage tanks (see above),
a 50'x50' concrete cistern, and dredge (spoil) fill
for the old Queen Isabella Causeway.
To reclaim the land was a monumental task of coordination, permitting,
analysis and ultimately removal. There were twenty-five
overhead electrical poles and
overhead lines to remove. Followed by hauling off tens
of thousands of yards of bay bottom dredge, a mixture
of wet clay and sand. There still remained the problem
of two
330,000-gallon tanks, the cistern, and accompanying
pipes, valves, and out buildings.
The tanks, cistern, and the facilities pump works were
not removed but renovated for current use. Tanks were
redesigned to house contemporary and functional offices,
condominiums, laundry, bathrooms, and recreation areas
(see above).
A pristine 25-meter pool
and hot tub are in the cistern and storage facilities
are housed in the old pump works. Added to this
accomplishment is the
700' fishing pier located at the very end of the resort,
which is also the location of FishBones
Pier and Grill.
From environmental disaster to environmental success, South Padre Island KOA
offers guests the latest accommodations and service in beautiful
surrounding.
